After a lot of hard work, failure and success, I am pleased to announce DIVDX now has full MODE8 support.

This brings the compatibility of DIV2 and DIV1 to 100% without exception.

Mode8 was the final piece of the puzzle to be solved, and because it was all in 32bit watcom assembly, it had to be ported to C.

The man who helped made this happen is Fransesco who you may know from GEMIX - One of the projects that aims to be DIV2 compatible.

I have uploaded a demo online to try, and see it working in full 8bit glory!

Look out for mode8 in a nightly build soon!

Sorry for being the killjoy, but Francesco (AKA CICTEC) has threatened some of us of taking legal actions for *reasons*.

One of them, five months ago, was about AmakaST and Darío talking to give support to GEMIX's FPG and MAP "propietary" formats, and CICTEC sent a "cease and desist or legal actions" to them. Cictec claimed that AmakaST and Darío's actions were compromising the integrity and security of Gemix's FPG and MAP formats.

You may see that discussion here:

I'm sorry about this offtopic, but as you mentioned him I think you should know he's not welcome here.

Yes, I know he comes with a dark past - but I have to give him credit as he made it happen.

This doesn't mean I condone any action he has taken in the past :)

Going back to the original topic, it is a nice piece of work no matter who did it so congratulations and keep the hard work.

Regarding the offtopic I just wanted to say that I explained the situation and I consider it a unfortunate missunderstanding of intentions and was discussed and closed.

Eeeerr... No, I'm not going to talk about offtopic.

Hype, hype, HYPE!!!
Congratulations! It's an awesome news. Old Mode8, whit their bugs... whatever they were, it's a nostalgic piece of art. And now, with the Doom Reboot, it's a perfect timing to see it back.
More incredible is it's almost stable 60 framerate (some drops) on this soon beta and running in Firefox Browser.

One thing I saw now (I don't know if it happens in DIV2) is, if you walk to a side of the balcony area, you can't see the rest of the level from the outside (looking to inside, the left part is the most visible: you cant see the "dark rooms" from the outside). Maybe an invisible walls feature of Mode8 :P

Yes this is correct, the mode8 engine in DIV2 was a modified VPE (modified engine and customised WLD format)

I had contacted the author prior to this and he has no issues with me continuing to use it :)
