Thank you :) Yes it sure can.
Yea it is. I've asked the creator for permission to use the song, but I am still unsure whether I'm going to use it. It fits the game's theme though.
you are wellcome... thanks you for use BennuGD.
you think release some playeable demo with 1 or 2 levels?

That I will do :) I won't release source files though as this game is commercial.
I don't ask for source, but thanks for say it.
please, let us know when you release a playable demo, thanks.
You use a 8 bpp mode7 ?
With 16 bpp the game will increase a lot the quality of the textures.

As far as I know, Mode7 is limited to 8-bit color depth only, so yes I do.
Anyway, I've uploaded a small PC demo here (http://linus.jobbprofil.com/dump/Arora_Rift.zip).
Expect more from the full game though.

I only think that you must add a bit more of speed

Wow, mode7 power!!!
Karma up,
a good m7 example, are you going to free code? :D
I was play it again... and now the speed seem good...
windgate, this project isn't opensource...
This guys don't read the posts, it's a commercial game ;D

Well thanks, but it isn't an example, it's a game :P at least the full game is. The demo is a bit short to be a game.
Nice looking game, although it's commercial, it would have been a great example
to use as a tutorial. Have you considered a mixed license? I.e. opensource code,
but closed source content?

I would very much like to contribute with an example, but I think this game's source code is too intimidating for new users (I was one myself when I started a couple of months ago, but I have many years of programming experience). I could however strip it down and make a simple example out of it later with replaced sprites that are free to use.
The reason why I don't want it to be open is because I think the Caanoo deserves some real quality commercial games, and I want to contribute to the selection of these games, and I don't want to see 100 ripped clones of the game being passed around.
Just a question. How hard is to put a game in GPH store? Licenses, first inversion, % benefits...
Interesting because in 2 months i want to put my commercial new game in GPH stores too :)

Not hard at all. There are no licenses and you get 70% of the income from your sales.
The game is now more or less complete, except for some finishing touches.
The game is now complete and a new gameplay trailer is out. Take a look at it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qop9AOf86Ao (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qop9AOf86Ao)
Will be releasing the game in the fungp appstore within the coming days.
Congratulations :)
Congrats :)
In the following days, I'll write a piece of news about your game in the main site.
Arora Rift is now available for sale at http://www.blackcurtainstudio.com (http://www.blackcurtainstudio.com) (digital download only).
And in fungp ?
Quote from: FreeYourMind on January 16, 2011, 02:05:20 AM
And in fungp ?
Nope, sorry. At least not yet.
Apparently you need to use GPH's own DRM system to be able to sell games at fungp, which unfortunately only is compatible with their official SDK.
We need drm support in bennu games!!!

NO, FUCK NOOO!!
DRM worst shit ever created by man!
Please, no drm. It's the worst thing ever created by mankind!
I hate drm, but exclusively for the GPfun store and only in his store, whe need the same system to sell Bennu games for Caanoo like the oficial GPH SDK games. Because you and i, and certainly more people in the future wants to sell bennu games in this store...
DRMs are a good thing, but people will always find a way to steal your hard work anyway.

Are the people from GPH working to resolve this situation at FunGP store, for non oficial SDK games, like Bennu ?
You have any information ?

say that to people who bought songs and then can't play it in other systems rather than the seller (usually a company, not an artist) decide. It's an OUTDATED business model, and companies don't want to notice it.
It's absolutely bullshit!!
This is not the same situation Noivern. I only don't want a thing, supose we sell one copy of a comercial game in FunGP, and the next day it was for download in dlopenhandhealds or wathever....
This game for example is exclusively for Caanoo, and only for the Caanoo of the owner of the original copy..
The other comercial games for Caanoo, work this way, logical we want the same for Caanoo's comercial Bennu games...

So, accept drm for things that are good for us but not in other cases. I don't like this line of thinking.
I prefer to go just in 1 line and this line is 'no drm' in any case :P
And by the way congrats BlackCurtain for your work :D
A demo for Caanoo is now available here: http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/caanoo.cgi?0,0,0,0,38,690 (http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/caanoo.cgi?0,0,0,0,38,690)

Thanks. Though I posted it in the wrong file category, should be under games - demos.
Thanks, by the way, finally i discovered a great DRM system for my Caanoo BennuGD games xD
Now, i'm beginning the implementation and tests xD

I haven't got the 32-bit Mode7 working on PC yet, I must've still be using an old Bennu version for Windows. The Arora Rift 32X version is primarily for OpenPandora as the Caanoo only support 16-bit.
oh... I understand.
Can you make a dreamcast version?

Can you make a dreamcast version?
Not sure how or even if it would run well.
Well if you get the fenix 0.93 from here http://www.dc-swat.ru/download/dc/fenix/Fenix_v0.93_build_4.files.7z; compile the game in fenix pack. map the controls using this.
//Buttons for the dreamcast
__A = _control; //if used as a key, it is _control
__B = _alt; //if used as a key, it is _alt
__X = _esc; //if used as a key, it is _esc
__Y = _space; //if used as a key, it is _space
__START = _enter; //if used as a key, it is _enter
(Tab and Backspace are supposedly L and R respectively but no one can get them to work. Most likely cause they dont program L/R in as R_TRIGGER or L_TRIGGER when they created it). Get a program called bootdreams. Have the 1st_read and ip.bin files in the root folder (of your game that is), put your game into that folder and name the main .dcb file "autorun.dcb", otherwise you will get a menu manager. Then use bootdreams to compile that folder into a .cdi then you can test it on an emulator and whatnot. .s3m is the only friendly music at this moment and i cannot get .wav files to play, most likely cause im not encoding them right.
Must be quite annoying having to burn a CD everytime you need to test a new version on the console. Think I'll pass.
Fenix don't have mode 7 16/32bpp, scale_resolution, and a big etc...

No? Just use the emulator. You have to put it all into a .cdi file so it can be burnt (or read by the emulator)

it has all that. im not sure about anything bennu created, but if fenix can do it, it will work on the dreamcast.
I know it, I made some tests in DC with fenix, 5 or 6 years ago...
You are outdated xDDD
fenix 0.84 is old and buggy.... the new one is fenix 0.93.
is old and buggy too...
The BennuGD monolithic is the way to do a Dreamcast port, maybe you contact the autor from the fenix port to make a port of the monolithic version of Bennu.
If you can do that you came really important in the community and have my bless ;D
As long as Bennu doesn't get a port for Dreamcast I'm not downgrading to Fenix. It won't do my game any good porting it with a discontinued and buggy dev suite.
lol talking trash about the thing bennu is based off of
Old and buggiest is not synonim of trash...

I'm not trash talking Fenix, I just think it's safe to say that Bennu has grown apart from Fenix and become something much bigger. Anyway, back on topic.

Pretty neat! :)
port it to le dreamcast
it's illegal sell a comercial game to a closed console.....
no its not...
http://www.ngdevdirect.com/ (http://www.ngdevdirect.com/)
Yes it is, in the case of Bennu Games.
Only is legal if you use oficial SDK (if you are a licensed company).
Remember the games you show maybe are created with oficial SDK and licenced by SEGA, if they aren't, are illegal too xD
No there won't be a Dreamcast port. I would have to compress the graphics A LOT then to comply to the Dreamcast RAM.

every single game since the dreamcast was no more is unliscensed. go ask the dc community.
