I got a couple consoles to run my newly reoptimized engine (too much life support in the last one). and while its better, im getting some issues:
*the images i used in the scroller
start_scroll(0,0,level_graph,37,0,0);
are inverted yellow-ish, mirrores horizonatally, and see through

*play_wav doesnt play sounds, do I need to change the frequency and stuff?

*play_song works for .it files and stuff but the problem is the sound quality is lower than what it actually is. is this the hardwares end?

*the game runs at half the framerate even with few processes running.

ALSO, TEST THE DREAMCAST VERSION, YOU DONT HAVE A DREAMCAST?
1. Use this emulator: http://code.google.com/p/nulldc/its the best and very easy to use, no disc mounting or anything

2. To get a bios, im sure if you are smart enough on getting them, you can get a dreamcast bios

3. when you go to file and hit start game, browse for the cdi and hit ok

FENIX SETUP FOR DREAMCAST:
1. download this: http://www.dc-swat.ru/download/dc/fenix/...4.files.7z
You cannot find this version anywhere else besides this link for SWAT himself sent me this link.

2. use the latest fenix pack, that is the one that works. Compile your game into a .dcb then copy pasta all the necessary files (plugin stuff does not work unless you compiled a plugin specifically for the dreamcast)

3. now get a program like bootdreams, it should start up with Selfboot folder:, browse for your folder that you put all your contents in (it also must have the 1st_read.bin and ip.bin in the folder, those two are fenix themselves)

4. make sure the disc format is audio/data then click process and save your .cdi somewhere

THIS WEBSITE says the technical info for an older version of fenix for dreamcast

I noticed I can go over that limit but dont press your luck.

I have seen malvado running on dreamcast in case you are wondering...

Well, I've heard/read some times that the console versions have some limitations, caused by either their own hardware limititations, or by sdl glitches/limitations.

As far as I know there used to be some sound issues on some consoles, but they might have been fixed. When I developed malvado, I've taken into account the limitations of the gpe wiz and cannoo, and have even made packages for them (wich I never tested), so I don't know if they work. I don't have either of these handhelds, so I'm really curious if it works. Anyway, I usually target windows and linux, and also test both of them, and my experience is that multi-platform development can be very exhaustive. I sort of treat mac os (I don't have a mac) as unix clone, so if it works on linux it shouldn't be to problematic on mac (sometimes I wish linux where as easy as mac).

So, sometimes you find ways of getting around the limitations of a platform, or make choiches. You could also create your game in such way that it gracefully degrates on slightly limited systems. Back in the 80's and 90's this was very common practice, I've got quite a few games that I have for several platforms. And good developes where able to deal with it, i.e. capcom was very good at porting nes games to gameboy that where almost as good as nes orginal, but with sightly adapted levelmaps. Darkwing duck, ducktales and your favorite Megaman are good examples of this.

If splinter sees this, he can port bennu over to dreamcast without hassle for this exact emulator runs exactly like real hardware. slowdowns on the emulator, same exact slowdowns on the dreamcast. crashes on the emulator, same on the dreamcast. if he can compile it in kos and it works on the emulator, then i can simply test the real hardware end which will most likely be 100% the same results he got.

do you want to try and port malvado over?

google translator much? Anytime I compile my game in fenix, i just get the 1st_read.bin and ip.bin from swats fenix for dc, save it altogether as a cdi. then load it in the emulator no problems. you can make homebrew and it will work on the emulators 100% like it will on the consoles.
